Asiamet steel is one of the leading manufacturer, supplier and exporter of 310 stainless steel sheets (UNS S31000, 1.4841) in India.
Grade 310 is a medium carbon austenitic stainless steel, for high temperature applications such as furnace parts and heat treatment equipment. It is used at temperatures up to 1150°C in continuous service, and 1035°C in intermittent service. Stainless 310 is often used at cryogenic temperatures, with excellent toughness to -450°F, and low magnetic permeability. The higher chromium and nickel content make this a better stainless steel when compared top SS 304 or SS 309. This grade is also very ductile, and has good weldability enabling its widespread usage in many applications.
Grade 310S stainless steel is the low carbon version of Grade 310 and is suggested for applications where sensitization, and subsequent corrosion by high temperature gases or condensates during shutdown may become problem.

PREN for Various Grades of Stainless Steel Sheets
What is PREN?
Pitting resistance equivalent numbers (PREN) are a theoretical way of comparing the pitting corrosion resistance of various types of stainless steels, based on their chemical compositions. In general, the higher PREN-value, the more resistant is the stainless steel to localized pitting corrosion by chloride. The elements which have a significant impact are chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen.
The formula used to calculate PREN is as below:
PREN = %Cr + 3.3(%Mo) + 16(%N)
PREN = 1 × %Cr + 3.3 (%Mo + 0.5 × %W) + 16 × %N

Alternative Grades to Stainless Steel 310 Grade
Features |
|
303 |
Stainless steel 303 grade can be used when higher machinability is needed, and lower corrosion resistance, formability and weldability are acceptable. |
316 |
Stainless steel 316 grade can be used when higher resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion is required, in chloride environments. |
321 |
Stainless steel 321 grade can be used when better resistance to temperatures of around 600-900°C is needed. 321 has higher hot strength. |
3CR12 |
Stainless steel 3CR12 can be used when lower cost is required, and the reduced corrosion resistance and resulting discoloration are acceptable. |
430 |
Stainless steel 430 grade is acceptable when a lower cost is required, and the reduced corrosion resistance and fabrication characteristic are acceptable. |
